Nick Adenhart, a rookie pitcher for the California Angels who spent last season with the Salt Lake Bees, was killed in a car crash early Thursday morning in Fullerton, Calif.
According to the Orange County Register and the Los Angeles Times, Adenhart was one of three people who were killed when the driver of a mini-van ran a red light and crashed into a Mitsubishi.
Two of the passengers in the Mitsubishi died at the scene. Another died at a nearby hospital.
The driver of the mini-van, according to the Times, fled on foot after the accident. But he was later apprehended and taken into custody on suspicion of hit-and-run. Further charges might be filed, pending an investigation.
The 22-year-old Adenhart went 9-13 for the Bees last season. He pitched 145 innings in 26 games and finished with an earned run average 5.76.
